B. Preliminary Results on Investigation and Research on The Shanchiao Fault, West Rim of The Taipei Basin
The Shanchiao Fault is a normal fault located on the wet margin of the Taipei Basin. This normal fault is the main cause in foundering of the Taipei Basin. In 1999 Central Geological Survey drill an investigation bore hole, WK-1E in the Wuku Industrial Estate. Cores from WK-1E indicated the basement to situate as deep as 680 m. In other words, in Wuku area foundering of the Taipei Basin attained depth as much as 680 m. The very significant effect such a tremendous subsidence imposed on the Taipei Basin is not to be overlooked. In recent years a number of major infrastructural projects, such as CKS Airport rapid transit system, the Hsinchuang Line of the Taipei Metro system, and the High Speed Rail all pass over the Shanchiao Fault. The result of investigation on the Shanchiao Fault thus is, therefore of much importance to the safety on public transportation, as well as of much academic value in relevant researches
