Detritus resulted from rock weathering and erosion is often transported by exogenic force, such as water or wind, to lakes or ocean and then deposited there. During the sedimentary process, biological remains such as shells or fish bones can sometimes deposit with the detritus. Following diagenetic processes, these sediments then become rocks and be uplifted by plate tectonic movements to above the sea level. This is how our lands and mountains were created and is the reason that we see strata and fossil on the ground surface or high mountains.
